Dental Insurance for Individuals
When your employer does not offer dental coverage just where does that leave you? It leaves you in the unenviable position of trying to find your own dental coverage. The holy grail of individual dental insurance for most people is one that allows you to go to any dentist.
Naturally people will find a wide variety of pricing for the various plans. Unlike a bottle of ketchup which is catsup which is still just plain old catsup no matter what brand you buy, prices for individuals seeking dental insurance will vary primarily because the benefits vary significantly from insurance policy to policy.
Buying the right insurance coverage is not as easy as going to the supermarket for groceries. For many items in the supermarket there really is very little difference between brands. Insurance policies however usually have big differences from company to company.
Insurance policies vary considerably from policy to policy. Instead of seeing this as a negative we need to view it as the opportunity to find the insurance coverage that fits our unique needs best.
Not only do most insurance policies have deductibles that you have to pay first but some of them may have different deductibles for different kinds of dental work. Many people look for a policy with little or no deductible for preventive services, for instance.
You may also want to consider looking at some discount dental plans since they do not have any deductibles and you have full coverage right from the very first effective day. You will have to go to one of their participating providers but sometimes that is not a negative at all.
Consider that any discount dental plan is not going to let just anyone claiming to be a dentist be a participating provider unless he is a legitimate and licensed dentist. You have just as good an opportunity to meet an excellent dentist in any discount plan as it you just have picking on at random based on his or her advertisement in the Yellow Pages.
For most people however, the advantage of a lower priced discount dental plan is completely negated by the fact that their dentist does not participate individually in any discount plans. For people who have a trusting relationship with their dentist there is simply no substitute for a good indemnity dental insurance plan that allows them to continue receiving treatment from their favorite dentist.
