Self Defense Tools Everyone Should Have

by Chris Channing

Getting attacked or robbed is going to put anyone's day into a downward spiral. But thanks to technology ,there are some great products that can make even the most frightening robbery a cake walk. But because of the selection available, most consumers don't know where to start or even what they are getting themselves into.

Pepper spray is a very popular type of self defense simply because it can be concealed quite easily and because it is so effective. The pepper spray will widen blood vessels in the eye- making the criminal close his or her eyes for a good 20-30 minutes- depending on how severe the spray was. They will also have trouble breathing and may experience a disabling burning sensation.

For more firepower in self defense, most will lean towards the stun gun. These items are more expensive, but they will subdue the attacker more effectively. Of course this effect can wear off sooner, so the party being victimized should find safety as soon as possible and call the authorities. Stun guns will usually have a longer range, depending on the type and model.

Even more lethal force will come as a result of the knife- which most will avoid because they cause a mess or are harder to use. While they are messier, they can be more effective in keeping an attacker away from a victim in close range fighting. Knives can be concealed in everyday objects such as pens- making them a great tool for tight areas or even for getting the element of surprise.

Hand batons are another option for consumers, although we commonly see them in use by the police more than the average consumer. Just like knives, the baton isn't as familiar to most people, and thus, less used. But the baton is a great tool for those with upper body strength and those who don't want to exert lethal force in keeping an attacker at bay.

Lastly there are air guns- which are also less common since they resemble guns in most cases. Police and store officials will likely mistake the use of an air gun in self defense as an attack, and may take regrettable actions. Thus, air guns are best used in home scenarios where the gun isn't going to be used in public in the eye of others.

Final Thoughts

We just can't get enough of new gadgets that provide for more security- but it'll cost a bit of money to guarantee one's safety. For the best solution to one's certain situation, consult a self defense expert and friends or family members of items they would recommend.
